The Nigerian government withdraws money laundering charges against Binance executive Tigran Gambarya
According to Reuters, the Nigerian government has withdrawn money laundering charges against senior Binance personnel Tigran Gambaryan, allowing him to receive treatment abroad.
Tigran Gambaryan is the head of financial crime compliance at Binance and previously worked as a criminal investigator at the US Treasury Department. In February of this year, he and Nadeem Anjarwalla, the regional manager of Binance Africa, were invited by the Nigerian government to attend a high-level meeting on Binance's compliance issues in the country. However, the government later accused the exchange of destabilizing the country's currency and detained the two high-level personnel.
Gambaryan has been detained in Nigeria since late February and accused of laundering over $35 million. Gambaryan and Binance both deny these allegations.
The Nigerian government's lawyer stated that the money laundering case against Binance will continue without Gambaryan. Another tax evasion accusation against Binance is still ongoing, and the exchange also denies these allegations.
